ScienceOnline09' Extravaganza

Karen and I made a quick visit to ScienceOnline09 conference this weekend. I wish we could stay longer. Here are the highlights and the math of the past two days:
  • time that we spent on the road (12 hours)
  • time we spent at the conference (13 hours)
  • time we slept (6 hours)
  • panels we attended (4)
  • nature magazine sponsored apple martinis (3)
  • sciblings that we got to meet (priceless)
Would it be appropriate if the first thing I thank to Bora for is the dolmas and baklavas we had on Sunday's lunch? This man is really the man of ideas! Ironically these two wonders were (one of) the subjects of our dinner last night. Who would have guessed? Points go to Bora and Anton for this amazing conference.

Glendon had really great artwork tips to share, with the help of Tanja. Tanja is an owl-artist originally from Serbia. While I wish I could talk to her more on Milloshevic, I got to learn that Tanja can make tulumba (and I am putting this very important information here as a reminder, in case I forget)

Do you want to make tulumba too? Check: Binnur's Turkish Cookbook

Check Glendon's deviantart page for his awesome scientific art here.

I also would like to give Stephanie Zvan a big A for not freaking out when experiencing how excited Betul can get.

I really had so much out of my first Science Online conference. I am not going to say that everybody I met sounded as inspiring as they did on their blog, but it is always amazing to be in a room filled with enthusiast youngsters.

Give me sometime to totally recover from this weekend and then we'll have a talk.

I kind of wish I'd seen you meet Stephanie! Did anyone film it?

Great to meet you and Karen!

I'll have to explore Carbonmade.com some more.

Hey there! I enjoyed the conference, too. I sat and talked with Tanja and her son for hours. Isn't her talent and art amazing. And she knows voles (a big deal to me).

Sorry I didn't get to meet you, but I look forward to cruising by again.

You are absolutely right, Betul! It was a great conference, I learned a lot and met some amazing people (the Nature-sponsored apple martinis didn't hurt either). I'm already looking forward to next year's conference!

Next time I promise to "watch" the road even better too. Thanks for being so wonderful, Karen.

It was nice meeting you Betül.

As an American, it's always nice to hang out at a mini UN table. Really, it's something that every citizen in this country should be doing.

Seriously, you were fine!

It was so nice to finally meet you, and I agree with Bora. You have to be there for the whole thing next year.

@all: Thanks! It was great meeting you all too. I can't wait for Science Online '10 (sounds cool).

@sfs: As long as you make sure that dolphins are safe, I am fine. You guys freaked me out. :)
